WATER POLO IS A UNIQUE SPORT AT SOUTH EUGENE HIGH SCHOOL.

The Boys and Girls Varsity teams are made up of players of all grades at South Eugene.  South Eugene Water Polo (SEWP or South) is in the Southern League. The team practices at Amazon Pool, where home games are hosted. The team plays league games throughout the Willamette Valley.  South Eugene is a competitive, has won the league title, and makes it into the State Playoffs most years.

New players are always welcome, regardless of experience. Most players start playing water polo in high school and SEWP does noes not require try-outs to join the team. Players do need to know how to swim and, at a minimum, should be able to do several laps without stopping. (Feel free to reach out to Coach Hayes if you have questions about your swimming ability.)

Players from South Eugene have gone on to play college water polo at many D1 and D3 schools including USC, Pomona, Pepperdine, Bucknell, Redland, Occidental, MIT, Fordham and St. Francis/Brooklyn. Many South Eugene alumni also play on club teams in college including at the University of Oregon.

Water Polo at South Eugene is a club sport, and is administered and organized by a volunteer parent board.   As a club sport, the team does not receive financial support from the school, we are funded through fees and a variety of fundraising events and activities, which is common for almost all water polo teams in Oregon.

“It’s great meeting new people . . . It’s a new experience . . . I have never tried this sport before. All the people are so nice with me even if I’m not good.”
